The Bradford Cowl was designed to coordinate with another one of my designs, the Bradford Beanie. The cowl begins with ribbing, and then twisting cables lead into the main body pattern of interwoven cables. There are twisting cables in the opposite direction before the ribbing on the finishing edge. There are 2 sizes given, but knitters can easily change the circumference and width of their cowls to suit their preferences and maximize their yarn usage.

The inspiration for the original hat design came to me in a dream with the cables flowing over vertical background details. I chose the name Bradford because my parents owned a gorgeous 1901 Queen Anne Victorian house in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The imported staircase, pocket doors, turret, and other architectural elements were second to none. They were careful to restore the house in period-appropriate, elegant details and also filled it with beautiful antique furniture. I hope that this design conveys the intricacy and elegance of that period.

To knit this cowl, knitters will need to be comfortable with working cables. The pattern is fully charted, and complete written instructions are given as well. I suggest the use of a removable stitch marker because the beginning of round changes to create a seamless cable pattern in the body.
