Just in time for Earth Day, I've started a knitalong with our new organic simply cotton!

I'm knitting a sweater for my fourteen month old out of Simply Cotton Worsted. I think this yarn is perfect for baby knits because it is super soft, machine washable and comes in four fabulous natural colors. I also think it would be great for washcloths, dish towels, comfy weekend sweaters and more.

If you're curious about this yarn, or already love it and want to share your enthusiasm with others, join the knitalong! In the KAL we'll share projects and help each other with questions. You can also share your favorite earth-friendly tips with like-minded knitters in the "Green tips for Earth Day and beyond..." thread I just added today!

Happy Earth Day! See you in the knitalong!

Here's a photo of the little guy in his hat. He's probably about 12 hours old! I think his head was 13" around when he was born. This hat took me 1 day to knit.

Shipping times vary, of course, depending on where you live. But I think 7-10 days is the norm, unless you opt for quicker shipping. If you order soon you'll have plenty of time to knit a hat. And if you get really into it, you'll be able to knit a lot of hats! If you make them in different sizes then the baby will have something to wear for a while. My sister was here for the first two weeks of my son's life, and knit him 3 hats, each in a different size. By the time she left he was out of the smallest and already wearing the middle size!

Teresa I think Simply Cotton Worsted would be an excellent yarn for a new baby. It's very soft, and only gets softer after it's washed and dried (both in the machine!) The fist hat my son wore when he was born was one I knit out of an organic cotton (before we had Simply Cotton.) It was great and I was sad when he outgrew it. :) Happy knitting!

I am getting ready to start a project for a new baby expected in June. Thinking of a light weight baby afghan with matching hat. This baby wont need sweaters or heavier things till he is a few months old, being born in early summer, but newborns always need a little hat to keep them from losing their body heat through their scalp. Do you think the Simply Cotton Worsted would be a good choice for this project? I have not ordered from Knit Picks before, so how long would you think it would take to get my yarn in? I need to get started pretty soon, I'm afraid I really don't work very fast.

Thanks for all the helpful info I find here. I love the site,
