Knitting Community

Don't worry, I'm not wandering away from knitting and spinning! But, the gang in Connecting Threads has become obsessed with English Paper Piecing. It is a fast, easy and fun way to hand piece an entire quilt! No sewing machine necessary! And, it's portable because you are working on little pieces!

It also turns out to be a perfect baby shower project. As you can see, even a complete quilting novice (me) can stitch together a little piece of the quilt. This is for Teri who is expecting her first baby. Stars and Hexagons have been distributed to people throughout the company - decorative painters, knitters and the quilters. I have to say that is was very soothing to work on my little star. I did the whole thing on the craft night before we left on vacation.

Hello to One and All!

Very good work. Keep it up!

Surgeon General Warning: Caution! Hand piecing can be addictive! LOL!!

I have several hand piecing projects going. My Take-Along is a Grandmother's Flower Garden. The cut pieces are about the size of a dime. It will be a doll quilt. I want to do one about half the size pieces.

A Amish Colored Lone Star quilt. I was going to be for my ex but now it's mine. ;-)

Also I'm doing Keepsake Quilting's "Women's Voices" all hand sewned. I originally got it for ex, he was a Civil War buff. I mean he's a scholar about the Civil War. The entire thing is going to be hand pieced and hand quilted. I want to get wool batting for it.

Enjoy!!

Hugs,

Susie Rose

Nicely done! Joined the Connecting thread Englished Paper Piecing Club. I've ordered my kit from them. I hope to see what is so addicting about it. Maybe when I finish it I will show you what it looks like done.

I too have a grandma's flower garden going. I will be YEARS before I ever get that done. (and maybe it will never get done). I was always into quilting until my friend started to knit something and that was it! My crafts moods change just like the weather!

I agree with Peggy. I started a grandmother's garden hand pieced quilt in summer of 1999. Had gone to visit MIL and knew that a week there with nothing to do would make me buggy. So I bought the fabric in her local shop and her husband cut me a template out of wood. I think she thought I was a bit obsessive since I worked on it the whole vacation there... Little did she know, I'm obsessive about everything I do.

Kelley: Watch out! hand piecing is addicting, like socks and lace! I made a whole Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt out of hexagons. Then I hand quilted it! Great fun, but I didn't get much knitting done! --Peggy
