I just started following this KAL because I'm working on the Owlings and have no idea how to complete the thumb. I can't tell you how helpful it is to learn why I'm using the waste yarn and how happy I am that I will now be able to go back and make a thumb and actually use the beautiful mitten I've just spent hours on! :) Thank you, Kelly, for your very detailed and clear explanations.

Leave a couple of inches for both tails.

Christina, this yarn is being used as a holder and will be removed later. If you cut it off close to the mitten it may come undone while knitting the rest of the mitten. ♥cheryl

Do i keep a tail for the cotton thread or should I cut it off close to the mitten?
