I finally got around to making the friend Marvin the Monkey has been asking for. Meet Matilda:

Marvin is thrilled--he's in love! And I'm in love with this yarn, Cascade's "Fixation." It's a sock yarn, 98.3% cotton and 1.7% elastic. It feels like cotton, but stretches like wool. I'm now about halfway through a pair of toe-up socks using the same red as Matilda's lips.

These two are Road Lizards like Rosa the Chewdle--they all love traveling, and went with us to our property in Nevada last week. This was a flying trip, without Serenity, to get a survey done. We now know exactly where our property corners are (on two of the three 10-acre parcels we now own.) One of the parcels is divided by a county road, and we were delighted to find a fence along the road on half of it:

Yes, those are cowboy boots (well, one is a hunter's rubber boot with a foliage print on the uppers--obviously more modern than the rest) on several of the fence posts. We stopped in at the local post office to ask some questions, and while chatting with some people there, I mentioned that we own "the property with the boots on the fence." They all knew right where it was!

Marvin and Matilda checked out the local amenities (a round log corral on the property), while Rosa preferred to sit in the truck. Some of those plants on the ground are stickery, and she didn't like walking around them. The monkeys, on the other hand, weren't as easily contained. The got into all kinds of mischief in the local store:

They couldn't resist checking out the toy rack. I was worried someone would come in and buy them. But they moved on to other attractions, like the local t-shirts:

The trouble started when they discovered the contents of a high shelf near the register. I had to drag them out after this:

Matilda came quietly, but Marvin got sidetracked on the way down:

Good thing Senor Foster and Mimi LaTour weren't with us. They would have been into the tequila, for sure. The monkeys had a great time, and are looking forward to our next trip north. They aren't the only ones!

Hi, Ramona. Yes, Marvin is quite taken with Matilda. Keeping them out of mischief doesn't seem to be an option. They *are* monkeys, after all! Matilda says thanks for the kind words ....

I love your monkeys!  My DH has two small teddy bears with him, flying with the CAF on FiFi the B-29 Bomber.  They too get into much mischief.  Of course your boy bear loves his new friend, she is absolutely adorable.  Have lots of fun and try not to get into too much "Monkey Business"  buwahahaha!

Thanks, EmilyVictoria! If you want to read a bit more about the monkeys, check out my "public" blog at  I keep intending to write a post there about our recent trip, but Life keeps getting in the way ....

What fun monkey adventures!  Matilda is just too cute, she's even cuter cause she's purple (my favorite color).

Thanks, Cheryl! We don't drink, so except for the odd bottle the kids leave around, the monkeys don't usually have access to such things. I'm quite fond of Matilda, myself. Purple being my favorite color and all. I have more of the "Matilda" yarn to make socks out of, as well as the red I'm currently using.

I was delighted to learn that the cowboy boots belong to us. Such a nice bit of local color. Just to the north of the fence with boots is a huge cattle ranch. They own, lease or make use of a million acres of land. This is open range, so the partial fence is a plus. It's barbed wire, which will have to go, but at least the posts are there, and in excellent shape. We have quite a list of projects for our next (hopefully longer) trip north!

Oh, my, I should have known they would find something good to drink! Yes, it is good that Senor Foster and Mimi didn't come along.

I can definitely see why Marvin is in love with Matilda! She's a real beauty!

And those cowboy boots? What fun!
