Cold hands, warm yarn
Now, this could be ok, as they were pretty unisex-looking gloves. Except his hands are twice the size of mine. It was downright comical, like his hands were the unwitting passengers in a knitted clown car. I took pity on him and grabbed a ball of unlabeled alpaca I'd found in the free box here at work, and we took off for the lake.
Though I was really itching to work on the socks I'd just cast on, I knew that my gloves would be submitted to some pretty rough handling while he was wearing them. So, I cast on for a pair of gloves for him with that unlabeled alpaca. I was bound and determined to get them done before we left the lake. And by golly, with about a yard of yarn left, he caught a fifth fish and then... the line broke and he decided to call it a day. So, technically I got them done in six hours, but not in enough time for him to wear them! Turns out he's a demanding customer and wanted them a little longer anyway, so when I got home I attached another yarn and made them a little longer. We ended up with almost matching gloves!
(I do tend to make a lot of fingerless gloves from scraps of yarn, so almost all of my gloves are silly looking like this.)
They look really similar there. Until the two pair are next to each other....
Now, when we're each wearing our pair of these, they fit the same way on us. The same amounts of our hands are covered. So, can you imagine how ridiculous those big hands would have looked in those tiny gloves?!
Luckily, despite the humiliation of the tiny-glove problem, he managed to catch a pretty nice dinner for us.
and my cat.
OMGYOUSMELLLIKEFISHMMMMMMTHATSMELLSGOOD! *sniff sniff*
Hubby was able to wear his new gloves finally this weekend and caught two big, fat trout - the biggest he's caught yet! So, the moral of this story is, when it comes to gloves and fish, size really does matter. :)

I have a fishing-loving guy, too. If yours is ever in need of a fishing buddy, let me know. Bear did lake-guiding on Hagg Lake, Detroit Lake and North Fork Reservoir (Promontory Park). He fishes at several other places besides that, but the only ones I remember for sure. He's getting his 22 foot pontoon ready for sale, so he's looking for a good fishing buddy in the area. :-)
