Knitting Community

This is what I walked into on Thursday morning. Which was yes my birthday. Can you believe it? How cute are those sheep? And yes those are project bags up there. In fact my two co-workers surprised me with sheep, knitting needles, and project bags. What fun. Sorry for the not so great pictures I took them with my cell phone. We also had the most yummy chocolate fudge rich cake ever which my dept manager made me. She's awesome and a really good baker. Sorry I forgot to take a picture of it. :( Trust me though it was rich chocolate yumminess( yes I know that is not a word). Also you know those dolls that nest into one another? Well they thought that would be fun to do with Project Bags! 17of them! I have them in every size from larger ones for sweaters and shawls to little cute ones for notions and all either reversible or lined. They are beautiful and fun. They had heard me talking about looking for an affordable project bag for some time since the cost of some (I would rather spend that money on yarn) not what I would buy myself. Plus I've learned to be creative in my project toting. Well they got together and one bought the most yummy( yes you will see that word a lot, even more fun to say than thrum) fabrics so soft and fun and then the other went and sewed all these bags. I felt very special indeed. I can't believe she sewed all those bags!
Yes you will see them hold on. I'm getting to that part. You know how I have been on a yarn diet. Well I had broke that diet a bit and bought Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Workshop book and five skeins of KP Alpaca Lace in Cappuccino for my birthday not to extravagant but something fun since I always wanted to knit the Stonington Shawl. Really not trying to go overboard. I only had a bit more time to go on my yarn diet. Well little did I know that the reason I was on such a yarn diet this week ( mind you yarn diets usually don't include birthdays which I was a little bummed that I had to still be sort of on one for my birthday but I was very happy with my purchase). Is because my DF was all out breaking my diet for me. Here is my birthday present my family

Can you believe it! Totally surprised!!! Plus it just so happened I have plenty of project bags for all of it and then some. I asked the next day at work no they did not plan it that way. They chuckled.
Wow really it is something. Talk about being distracted from Christmas knitting. Here the funny thing my DD knows me so well. She sees me looking at all of this and tells me she better not see any of it knit up and in peoples stockings. I say not even her? Yep she says not even her. That's even a bigger wow since she is the first to call dibs on whatever is on my needles.haha....They were pretty firm about this. To funny.

Wanna see close ups?

OK so the picture on the left is more color accurate and the one on the right show the pattern better. I cannot believe they did this. Wow.

Here is the Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande.

Six skeins! Of Melange by Blue Sky Alpaca.

This was harder to take a picture of but it is Baby Alpaca Lace by Plymouth.

Then they threw in some Misti Alpaca Lace. What I thought was funny was how my DD chose the color she said it was the only one they had four of and she thought I would need at least that much.

OK so I'm not a big bulky yarn knitter. I mean I have bulky yarn in my stash and love Knit Picks Suri Dream( total yumminess). But overall not what I usually buy. Well I guess that was their mission to buy me what they know I wouldn't buy myself. Now this one make me laugh.

Why? Well its because it is a skein of Cascade Magnum Super Bulky. Total DH! Goodness this is super bulky! What am I going to knit myself with that? I did find something and have already knit it up. Jeez talk about quick three hours total time. I will post that tomorrow.

Well that's all for now

On the needles: Christmas knitting
On the Zen: Nothing really except the Knit Picks podcast.Mostly I have been playing Trivia Pursuit with the kids. Board games like this and Scrabble are great to play and knit at the same time.

Hope you've had a good weekend.

Thanks guys!! I'm still blown away. Peggy!! I'm so excited to hear from you!! How's the recovering going? I hope you are not in any pain. At least your grocery bags are cloth mine are plastic that I recycle and reuse. I still use Ziploc bags and totes for my stored ( the not next in line to knit stored) stash yarn. For toting projects around I was using either Ziploc bags or a little vinyl bag I have. Well since I carry more than one project around at a time ( need options hehe..) it was getting a bit frustrating, but I dealt with it. I had even talk about sewing myself some but that's not really my talent and trying to find the time. Little did I know the birdies were listening and taking notes.
Susan I feel very blessed. They knew what to give a knitalcoholic for sure. I guess I didn't really realize how much I was talking about alpacas ( hmm wonder why??) because they knew that was EXACTLY what they were going to get me. Each family member picked out one.The Cascade Magnum ( one of the ones DH picked along with the Baby Alpaca Grande)was thrown in for fun! Hmm.. I just realized he picked out the bulky ones. Wait to you see what I knit with the Magnum. Going to take a picture hopefully this evening. My DF did really great! I guess I'll keep them :)
Oh yeah I really like my Zen. I got it since I like to borrow audio books from my library online and I have more borrowing options with the Zen where there is less options for the i-pod or Zune. Isn't that weird? Plus I am able to record meetings so that was a plus.
Hoping to make a dent OK some progress in my Christmas knitting tonight an tomorrow. If I can stay focus that is. -K

LOOKS LIKE A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY! YARN, PROJECT BAGS AND DEATH BY CHOCOLATE! WHAT A WAY TO DIE AND GO TO HEAVEN! BTW, I HAVE A ZEN, TOO. I SAVE THE PODCASTS DIRECTLY TO IT. I USE THE iPOD FOR MY AUDIOBOOKS, BUT THE ZEN IS PERFECT FOR THE PODCASTS. I'M DOING THE STONINGTON,TOO, BUT IT'S HIBERNATING RIGHT NOW. HAVE TO FINISH RECOVERING FROM THUMB SURGERY, AND THEN I PLAN ON DIVING INTO THE PILE OF UFOS, ALL NEATLY STASHED AWAY IN CLOTH GROCERY BAGS--NOT SO PRETTY AS YOUR BAGS. --P

Knit4,
What a WONDERFUL and YUMMY birthday! You are loved, if your friends know EXACTLTY what you need. My DD got me yarn for my birthday last year, and I used one of the skeins for a gift for my DGD, but am saving the alpaca (2 skeins) in amethyst for ME - I just haven't found the right pattern yet. Thanks for a wonderfully happy post. You are the greatest! And your DD isn't far behind. --S
