Angels' Wings

In place of my regular blog post this week, I decided to hold sort of a celebration of life for my dear friend, who passed away early Thursday after a prolonged illness.

I invited a few people to share their memories of Susan. If you have memories to share, you can add them in…

High Fiber—UFO-a-go-go.

I had several irons in the fire this week, but the big news is, I'm coming down the home stretch on my Delectable Pathways quilt.

I got the top pretty much put together yesterday. I still have some appliqué to do on leaves that cross over seams. There are also two seams to sew, left…

High Fiber—Spring Has Sprung

It has been another crazy week. Besides my spring cleaning, Ellen and I got together to watch Mary Sorensen's hand-appliqué DVD.

I got out my almost-finished block. This is the cardinal design she uses in this wonderful instructional DVD. I took her…

High Fiber—The Groundhog Lied!

We drove through the rain this week to reach Vintage Stitchers, which met on Thursday.

We had lots of show-and-tell. Here's Carol's 1600 quilt. Here's the backing.…

High Fiber—Done With Sundance, Back to Fiber Fun!

The official Sundance Film Festival is over for this year.

DH and I still have one volunteer shift to do tonight. After the festival is over, Sundance puts on two free screenings of one or two of the best films. We're working that. Then it's all over for another year. While watching the lobby…

High Fiber—The Sundance Knitter

Sundance has taken up a lot of my time this week. We start each shift with a meeting. Here are some of my fellow volunteers at the meeting.

Sunday was especially time-consuming. The last film Sunday night was three hours long, which meant I got home at nearly 2:00 AM! I have seen three…

High Fiber—Winter Already?

On Wednesday a snowstorm hit. Not some wimpy October snow that melts as soon as it hits the ground, no!

This was a regular, full-blown snowstorm.

We went out early in the day for a get-together with friends we met during the presidential campaign last year. We went to Kneader's at Kimball Junction for breakfast and caught up on…

High Fiber—Learning New Things

In Common Threads this week, we had a special meeting to view the video, "Learn to Love Needleturn" by Mary Sorensen

We gathered at our usual start time at Janet's to have a bite to eat before the meeting. We had eight people, in spite of our first real snowstorm, with…

High Fiber—Small, Beautiful World!

On Wednesday, Karan and I went to Joanie's to help her with her paper-pieced pine-tree blocks.

She has such an aesthetically pleasing work space! Here's what it looked like when we arrived:…

High Fiber—Close Calls

As always after a trip, there's lots of laundry and cleaning to do. I managed to make some progress on my appliqué project, though.

There was a lot of laundry to do when we got back, especially with the extra towels for the kids. Our ancient Maytag washer has taken to only liking to run one load…

High Fiber—Adventures in Weaving and Other Fiber Fun

In spite of a busy week, there was some progress on several projects. The appliqué part of the Delectable Pathways quilt is coming along.

I worked on it some during the Common Threads meeting, which took place at…

High Fiber—Flipping Out!

I finished my first woven scarf:
If you look up close you can see very uneven selvedges and tension on the right end (where I started), but what you can see on the left side (where I finished) is my improvement as I went along. This scarf will be a great reminder of how far I've come! The second…

High Fiber—Sleying the Mighty Reed And Other Adventures

Wednesday, Deanna, my weaving teacher, came to my house to help me set up my loom and give me a lesson.

Here she is showing me how she picks up four separate threads in order as they come out of the heddles and keeps them straight as she threads them through the dents in the reed, (sleying the…

High Fiber—Back on My Rocker and Weaving Looming Large!

We picked up my new loom on Wednesday and set it up in the living room until spring.

Joanie's son, Mike, helped take it partially apart, so he came along to help put it back together.…

High Fiber—Seams About Right!

The quilting bug has hit me again:

I just finished this quilt top which will be a topper for our little table in the living room. The quilt contains several fabrics I received for Christmas along with some I bought when I visited DS1 and DDIL1 in Kokomo last year.

The sewing "fit" followed a…

High Fiber—Films and Friends

Ellen has been working on a Christmas quilt.
She's using a kit she picked up after Christmas last year when we went shopping at one of the Salt Lake City quilt shops. It's Bloom Creek's "Holidays at…

High Fiber—Wool, Work and Wonders.

It was a busy week! Sunny and I went to visit clients in the nursing home as usual on Tuesday.

Then we had Common Threads on Thursday. My friend Ellen is working on this French Braid design for a quilt top (above). Kay finished a baby blanket for her cleaning lady, who is expecting (below).…

High Fiber—Autumn in the Air

We haven't had any snow yet, but fall is definitely in the air. I'm hoping to get my Dogwood Blossoms sweater done in time to wear this winter.

Winter comes early in Northern Utah, especially above 7,000'! We often have a light snowfall in September, so it won't be long now.

After last week's…

High Fiber—Odds and Ends

We're still at home, since BS hasn't put in his appearance this early, but we'll be taking off soon, regardless.

One of my projects this week was to finish the baby hat DGD1 started when she was here. I used it to teach her how to knit in the round, and then I continued it, but it has been…

High Fiber—Traveling Stitches

Yes, we're traveling again. We had a nice visit with DS1 and DDIL1 before heading back to Utah.

DDIL1 and I visited the Little Scrap Quilt Shop, in Kokomo, Indiana. We found a nice selection of fabrics and notions, and learned that they will arrange classes of your choice if you line up two or more friends to take the class with you.…
