About Me:
I love knitting and working with a variety of fibers. I recently took a class in spinning on a drop spindle and have found myself in love with a new hobby. I hope to be able to buy my own spinning wheel soon to make yarn for my sock projects.

I am married 35 years now to the same terrific husband; we have three children--1 girl and 2 boys, all grown now. We also have 2 grandchildren that we adore. And, we share our home with 1 beagle and 2 cats, and our newly adopted Lab rescue puppy Sophie. In fact, my new avatar is her photo.

FREE PATTERN: TERRY'S VERY EASY TOE-UP SOCKS for BEGINNERS

Hi all!
I hope this is being posted where people can see it. I'm still new at this forum. I have written a new pattern for beginners: Very Easy Toe-up Socks for Beginners. It is posted here on Knitpicks at http://community.knitpicks.com/profiles/blog/list?user=2xkrnhb9vzzr8
It is now in PDF format so the file is a much quicker download.

Give me a shout if you are interested in the pattern. I have posted photos of the sock below in case you're curious. All of the socks I make now are from this pattern, with the stripes added or not, depending on how I feel at the moment. So any sock in my photos will give you an idea of how it looks.

I've used both wool and acrylic successfully with this pattern, and it can be made to fit smaller sizes or larger. I've also adapted it to make slipper socks too.

SOPHIE IS HOME! SOPHIE IS HOME!

Our beautiful little Sophie came home on Sunday. I can't begin to describe how much joy and laughter she brought with her. I never knew that Labs have such a sense of humor!

Here are a couple of her new photos. The one in the top-right corner is Sophie after her first bath. During the bath she was very quiet and stood still. Now, every time she gets a chance, she runs into the bathroom, stands up on her hind feet and tries to peer into the "place where that warm water was"! She cracks me up! A… Continue

Pattern #3: Modified Helmet Liner

MODIFIED HELMET LINER.doc

The Angels for Soldiers group on Ravelry has been making helmet liners and many other items for our U.S. troops and allied troops stationed overseas. This pattern is a modified version of the helmet liner which helps insulate the soldier's head and also helps to keep the sand out of their hair. It uses short ro… Continue

My knitted Christmas gifts...so far

My knitted Christmas gifts this year include two knit mini-purses which are felted.
I've got them finished except for attaching the straps, which are I-cord. Both the purses started out as slippers for myself, but half-way through I realized I really didn't want them as slippers. After flipping it around, thinking I had wasted all my time on the project, not to mention some very nice wool, the heel flap flopped over the toe portion and it hit me like a lightning bolt: Hey! Those will make wonder… Continue

Terry: I hear you! Men! Can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em, LOL! DH and I have been married for 44 years. We're going to keep at it until we get it right! We have grown together, though, in spite of the fact that we both have strong personalities. We have the same values, and we're both tolerant. Sort of like a spinning wheel. Good luck with yours! --P

Terry: I looked for a second-hand wheel. The only ones I found were almost as expensive as a new one, so I gave up. I'm really happy with my choice, though. The one you're considering certainly is easy on the eye! --P

Did I ever answer your question? I don't see it here, so maybe I missed it. I have a Kromski Sonata, but it's equipped with a WooLee Winder. (That's the thing that holds the bobbin.) It allows me to spin without having to move the yarn from one hook to another so the yarn goes onto the bobbin smoothly. The thing behind me that sort of looks like luggage is the backpack that the wheel fits into. It weighs 11.5 lbs. There are several wheels that are portable. It's important that you like how your wheel looks. It's just as important as how it operates. If you keep it closed up in a closet, you miss a lot of opportunities to spin for just a few minutes. Mine sits in the living room and only goes into its bag when we go somewhere together. --P

TERRY, THANKS FOR READING MY BLOG. I BELIEVE THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT IS A MAJACRAFT ROSE, BUT I'LL CHECK WITH THE OWNER AND GET BACK TO YOU. THE BAG IS KP'S SIPALU BAG PATTERN, AVAILABLE HERE. IT'S THE COLORWAY PICTURED IN THE FOREGROUND, BUT WORKED IN THE ALTERNATE COLORS, WHICH ALSO COMES WITH THE PATTERN. I THINK THE PATTERN NOW COMES WITH ALL OF THE VARIATIONS. --P

If anyone needs a daily dose of Puppy-Love, please watch the video of my new baby Lab with her littermates and her Mama. We will be bringing her home the week of Thanksgiving but still haven't thought of a good name for her. If anyone wants to offer suggestions, it would certainly be appreciated.

Thankfully most of our cats aren't too interested in my yarn, or else I'd go crazy picking up yarn everywhere! Tabbi(Tabitha) might be pursuaded to play but she is just to darn fat. She is very tempermental and has been known to reach out and attack my little sister when she walks by ( Tabbi is very sophisticated and just can't tolerate small people)

Hi Terry,
As soon as things settle down here I am going back to my blog and add more pix. We also have a kitten and she "Rin" is everywhere! Specially likes to play with my knitting! She is the noisiest cat we have ever had! As all our cats she is a "foundling" and was terribly shy at first, she didnt come out of the bathroom for days! We even had to put her food and drink inside. Now she is turning into a daredevil and does not even hide when the babies are around. She loves it when they pet and kiss her.
Talk to you later.
