Hi y'all - just joined this KAL. I'd always peeked in here and there, but never actually did charity knitting of any sorts so didn't join earlier. I'm now adding to my prayer shawl ministry at our local church (around 200 yards from home) to help with sweaters, cardigans, shawls, blankets etc for our community. The idea was to help out anyone who doesn't have such peace and a haven in what I am blessed to call home. But really it's for anyone who needs that extra hug or something warm to wrap up in. I've added three garments last weekend to the pictures on my page. Currently, I'm working on a hoodie for a 6-7 year old boy. Pic will follow when I'm done.

It is Karabella's Aurora 8. My sister had neuropathy in her hands and feet from chemotherapy. So she had to give up knitting. She gave me some Aurora 8 and told me she wanted a hat with this because it was cotton and didn't itch. I had to laugh. I told her it was 100% wool but that it was merino so wasn't scratchy. I had to show her the label to get her to believe me.

The buttons were sewn on by hand. On the side are small artificial flowers with some ribbon. I added about 4" or so to the length of the beanie. It probably could have been a little bit longer.

That is a very cute hat that any one would love to wear. Thanks for the inspiration. What kind of yarn did you use for this one. Are they buttons sewn on to embelish? Cool!!

Virginia, this is the cap I made for my sister. It is Cecily Beanie from Knitting Little Luxuries by Louisa Harding. I just made it longer to cover all of the head.

I agree with Cheryl re: not making one that looks like a chemo hat. I say that as both a knitter of these hats and also a person with cancer. I like the slouch hats personally. They add some bulk to a newly-hairless head and they can cover below the ears so it's not so obvious that there's no hair. And keep the person warmer, too.

I hate it when they look like "chemo caps". I think it should give the patient hope and the word "chemo" just sends chills up and down my spine. That's why I love how my sister called them cure caps.

Virgina, although I love calling them cure caps as my sister called them, if you google "chemo caps" you will find lots of patterns. I find that almost any hat can be a cure cap. You just typically want to make sure it covers all of the head. You want to make sure you use soft yarns such as merino. ML can be used on any pattern knit in the round. Some pattern suggests are:

I would like to make 'cure caps' in some kind of simple pattern that can go quickly and be done with the magic loop...I have gotten hooked on that, it's pretty cool after you get the hang of it. I am not quite sure how to do it except I suppose it is just like a sleeve or something else 'round'. Any suggestions would be great. vk
