We've sold out of the other Sheldon kits. That's why we took them off of the website. However, the original Sheldon pattern is available for free at www.knitty.com.
One, I feel a little ripped off: I wanted to join the Sheldon (original) Knitalong and it is now gone. [whine, sniff, sniff, snarfle]
As soon as we pick up mail today, my order is there with my yarn to make him so I was gonna join the knitalong... now I'll have to wait until I get to making his "personas".
I just had an idea. Rather than have the separate Knitalongs for his careers and critters, why not just have one big Sheldon Knitalong for him and all his personas?

The other thing... I know we've got lots of grandmas and moms and aunts and other interested parties that might enjoy knitting sweaters for the Build-a-Bears and other 18" dolls, and can be sized up or down for other size dolls/bears.
I have a book ordered from KP about knitting sweaters for these guys, "Knits for Bears to Wear." I would love to have a Knitalong with others... it would be quick projects and fun to share photos of the kids (and big kids) who are the recipients of the sweaters... and the outfits are REALLY cute! My daughter went nuts when I showed her I was going to order the book to make sweaters for GD's two BaB Monkeys.
Maybe we could make a knit along for knitted stuffed animals and outfits? I just saw a book for knitted outfits that American Girl dolls or similarly sized dolls could wear. I would have flipped out if that book existed when I was 10. I first learned to sew and crochet because I wanted to make outfits for my dolls. This could be fun stuff to give as gifts, or to encourage kids to learn crafts.
I think that would be a great KAL! I just finished knitting a dragon for my GD and have two Sheldon's in the queue. I plan to knit some outfits from the Bear Sweater book this summer for holiday gifts for GD and a couple Sheldon outfits as well... I'd love to share that with other "toy" knitters. :-)
I was looking through the posts on this subject, and I would have to agree with one back in July. I think a kal on the great american afghan, or one of the lacy shawls from Victorian Lace Today would be awesome. Has anyone seen that book? The shawls are absolutely exquisite, there is no other word for them. Lace knitting is my next area to go into, and afghans have always been a favorite.
Scrap: Had you thought about trying the Hemlock Ring Blanket? Those of us who have made one really enjoyed this project. Lace is so much fun, isn't it? Maybe you want something more challenging, though. A lace shawl would be fun. I've done a couple and really enjoyed them. --Peggy
I am not familiar with the Hemlock Ring Blanket, but if you can give a website, or somewhere I can look up the pattern, I will add it to my collection. I have only recently started to lace knit. Oh my goodness, such exquisite possibilities, and it seems that each new one I see, is like seeing new types of yarn. I would like to make a couple of shawls, I know that wont be anything that is done easily. I have already found out that when I lace knit, I have no one else around, and I can't talk and knit. I make too many mistakes, and the finer yarns don't rip out as well I have found. I am working on a lace scarf for an overdue gift, with a merino wool and mohair blend. I get to a certain point, and for some reason, I can't fix the mistake. So I have ripped it out twice now. This time I will make it.

There's more information on the pattern here- http://theraineysisters.com/?cat=51
If you check the KAL sectionof this website (Knit Picks) you will see all the fun we've been having with it. (I believe you can read all the posts without joining.) It's a good way to see whether you would like to do it. It could be used as a shawl. My DH, the pups and I are always competing for the finished project! One advantage is, after the center flower is finished you only have a pattern row every 5th row, so you can do some TV knitting during that time. The thicker yarn is easy to rip out if you need to. Whatever you pick out, though, I hope you have a good time with it.
I haven't made the pattern myself, but am highly encouraged by all the people in the Hemlock Ring Blanket Knitalong that have... variety of skill levels and everyone's project came out gorgeous and no panic attacks working it to the end. LOL! There seemed to be a number of "first time I've ever..." in the project and no one was remotely stymied at any point, that I could tell.
Although it is a "blanket" pattern, I could see it made from lace weight yarn to be a pretty circular shawl... anyone that has made it, would you concur?
I've got a number of projects I've already emotionally committed to, but this "hemi blanket" is on my future list of ToDo knitting!
You might like Hemlock Ring then, because if you use worsted weight yarn it is pretty easy to rip out if you use a wool like WotA. Alpaca or mohair yarn is more difficult to frog because it is fuzzy. Also, a large portion of Hemlock Ring is feather and fan which is a simple lace pattern which is much easier than it looks. Also, Girasole is a circular lace shawl that is a blanket size if you use worsted weight yarn.
Oh... that's gorgeous! I may like that one better than the Hemlock Ring... maybe it could/should be included in the Hemlock Ring KAL... they are similar in some ways?
I remember during the contest some grumbling about long sections of stockinette... it sounds like this one spreads that all out more evenly...
