I too am one of theose knitters who likes to pull from the center of the ball. I generally do not have too much trouble, but there are those balls that just do not want to cooperate. This hint was given to me some time back. You need to have the ball right side up and pull from the top. The top is according to the label. It has helped with some of my balls, but not all of them.
My frustration comes when I don't check the outside end of the ball and it comes through the middle & I have two ends.
I guess I have just gotten used to it. Sometimes when I get a "wad" from the middle, I just undo it and wind it around the outside of the ball. It usually gets knit up rather quickly.
Good luck with your project. Don't let it frustrate you, just keep going. Your project will be just beautiful in the end.

With the KP balls, I usually use my handydandy ballwinder and make my own center pull skein. Yes it would be awfully nice if they were already wound that way, but as it only takes me a few minutes, I try not to let it bother me.

I'm starting the Tanglewood Cascading Cardigan that I recently bought thru Knitpicks. I'm having trouble with the YOs. Mine disappear. I'm doing a swatch of the pattern, but my YOs disappear. So my swatch doesn't look like the pattern. I've even double wrapped around the needle for each yo to make a larger hole, but they still disappear. I knit tightly so instead of using size 9 like the pattern states, I'm using size 11. Am I reading the pattern wrong? Example, row 6 states: k2, p1, *k1, (k1, yo) 3 times, (SSK) 3 times, p1; rep from *, k2.
To me this means: Pattern section: (k1, yo) (k1, yo) (k1, yo), then (SSK) (SSK) (SSK),---->. Am I reading the directions correctly. Does anyone out there know? Thank you.
I tried to do this last night, but computer issues prevented me from finishing. It sounds to me like you are reading the pattern correctly. I am guessing, but when you come back across the row you are purling. Be sure you go through the front of the YO like a normal stitch. This is where you get the hole. Don't go throught the back to make it tighter. The YO does look different on the needle. I hope this helps. Good Luck with your project. Renee
You are reading the pattern correctly. Are you doing your yarn overs correctly? Here is a tutorial for that to double check that the stitch is correct.
You said that your yarn overs disappear. Do you have the right number of stitches on your needles after you do a yo and ssk row? Or are you not seeing your yarn over holes right away (you may need to knit the next row or two to see them clearly).
Could you send a picture of your knitting to me so I can figure out exactly what is going on? That would make it so I could help you a little more.
I am making the Wildflower Sweater Girl's Pattern from Lucinda Guy's Handknits for kids. I am stranding the colors and it seems to be a little bulky. Should I be using intarsia? Any help will be appreciated!
Does anyone have any suggestions for an afghan pattern that would be fairly easy for someone who's new to knitting? I'm almost done with my first project, and I think I want my next project to be an afghan for my brother and his wife as a Christmas present. I'd really appreciate if someone could suggest a pattern, whether individual or in a book, that would be relatively simple. Thanks!
I wondered if there are any plans to release the Little bubbles kit as a kit again or as a standalone pattern? I love it but was too late to order a kit!
We do plan to release the kit as a pattern within the next month. You'll need one ball each of the 5 colors of Comfy Sport you plan to use, if you want to get a head start on the yarn. I'll make sure there are posts here when it is released to let everyone know it is up!
I purchased "The Second Book of Modern Lace Knitting" and looked at the picture of the Thistle Shawl on the website. I want to make it in lace wt yarn, but the book calls for size 12 needles. I wondered what size you used, otherwise all the info is either in the book or on the site.
Thanks,
