Does anyone have the book Amigurumi Knits? I suspect the patterns use smaller needles than I normally knit with, and I'd like to get the book and needles together if that's the case, but nowhere in the description does it give a size range for the needles used in the book. I tried calling Knit Picks customer service, but there wasn't a copy of the book available for the girl to check. :( Specifically, I'm looking for what needle size(s) I'm going to need for the jackalope and Loch Ness monster, but I'll probably knit through the book eventually.
I happen to have a copy of the book available & all of the patterns seem to take worsted weight yarn & size 5 needles - both Nessie & the Jackalope I checked specifically. :D
Rule of thumb for most toys - go down about 2 needles sizes for the yarn you want to use. :) That way you can make the huge or tiny :)
I’m having a hard time with the Knitters' Tools Bag kit! I have started the lining and am at a point that says “pick up the 18 stitches from the bag”…there are no live stitches on the bag at this point as everything to this step has said to BO all stitches except for the 17 stitches remaining on the lining.
I've looked on Ravelry and noticed several other questions about this step. Please help! I'm nearly done and already in love with my new bag and want to finish it up!
I think you got the information from the Ravelry thread (unless there is 2 Catrinas working on this!). I apologize for the error - I am going to double check the information & get the errata up on the website. Let us know if you have further questions!
When knitting the under layer for the Hugo Cap, I believe the cast on should be 18, not 22? Or in the chart, there should not be 4 "M" in the 1sr row??
You will be casting on 22 & increasing by 4 in the first row. You'll have 26 stitches at the start of the next row. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your question!
I have purchased the Holiday Lace sock patterns off the website as a download. The pattern calls for using double points, but I use the Magic Loop method. The problem I am having is with the chart. I begin with the correct number of stitches on my needles, but when I work the chart, it doesn't work right. I either end up with 1 less or 1 more stitch on my two needles. I know how to do YO, SSK, and K2tog...because I have been knitting for years, but have never used a chart to knit a pattern. Is there something wrong with the chart? Am I supposed to end with "knit 3" and begin the pattern again with "knit 3" on row 4? I have started these over 3 times already and am really frustrated. I hope someone can help me! Thanks!
Which pattern are you doing? (the Hollyberry or the Candy Cane) Looking at the charts, they seem fine to me. You will be repeating each chart row 6 times for the smaller version, 8 times for the larger across the the 48 or 64 stitches. But let me know which design you are doing & I will try to assist you!
I am working on the Hollyberry chart. I have 32 stitches on each needle. For the YO, do you bring the yarn forward and knit one stitch then do the SSK? That's what I have been doing and the pattern is not working out right. I end up with either one less or one more stitch and it doesn't end with a knit stitch when I am working it. It seems like it would increase with the YO and then decrease with the SSK and K2tog, and I shouldn't end up with more or less stitches. I never have worked a pattern from a chart before...so I am assuming I am not reading something right. Thank you for your help!
Nope, you will not be doing a stitch after the YO - you'll bring the yarn forward, then do the decrease - that is what creates the design :) You'll have a lovely little hollyberry show up!
Something that helps me when knitting from charts is placing markers on your needles after every repeat (so every 8 stitches in this case) - this will help keep track of your knitting, & you'll know right away if you've made an error - you should always have 8 stitches between the markers.
