I can't imagine buying yarn from a LYS that wasn't supposed to felt but after knitting it up it... I can't imagine them even offering to replace the yarn. wow.
The silk content of Bare Gloss will soak up the dye and the resulting yarn will be deeply colored and lusterous. Anything that you dye that contains silk will be gorgeous and glow.
I think it's an odd one out, but my first time using regular WotA (in Winter Night), little tiny bits of blue fuzz dropped out as I was knitting. I didn't have this problem with WotA bulky in Robin's Nest, which was ordered at the same time (last November.) What might cause this and can I expect it to happen with the other color I ordered at the same time?
All the sock yarn I've had, and a few balls of sport weight yarn have been wonderful, though.
I'm not sure what the problem might have been. Could be that there was some extra dust/lint during the manufacturing process that didn't get cleaned off in that particular run. Were you happy with the resulting knitted fabric?
Well, it didn't seem to affect the mitts (Gothic from Knitting New Mittens and Gloves) and they aren't shedding. It is a little difficult to describe--I'd almost say that maybe little bits of the ends of the fibers came off or were cut off...? It could be lint. It doesn't seem to be pulling off the yarn; more like it was caught in the spin or lightly stuck to the yarn and light abrasion and movement as I knitted caused it to come off. It's a bit difficult to see with the dark colorway, but the WotA in question doesn't seem to have any odd or flawed texture.
(Not related, but I was thinking of suggesting Imagination in Bare, and--voila--it's here!
Even more off topic: the website category listing thing is doing something odd to me: no matter what yarn I clicked on a few minutes ago off the yarns tab, it said yarn > sock. Then I browsed the lace yarns specifically and now, whether it's Comfy Bulky or Essential Kettle Dye, or even a laceweight yarn, it claims it's lace. It does the same with organic. I don't think it should do this, but then again, maybe it's supposed to be last category browsed)
I think they may be tinking with the website... I heard a rumor the new lines are near launching. :-) The website issues may be related to them getting ready to release the new products.
I always get excited when the website acts a little wonky and I know something new is supposed to be released soon... almost always, I find something new soon after and the problem corrects itself. LOL!
Hi all! I just recently got some Unicorn Imagination yarn for socks. When I received them they were different in color. The one hank is quite obviously darker than in the other and it is most noticeable in the purple/pink color. I thought at first this was just maybe in one spot of the hank so I wound it up in a cake (using my KP ball winder YAY!) and it was not just the one spot. So I started knitting my socks hoping that it wouldn't be too obvious, but it is, even my non interested husband could tell the difference. If you've been on ravelry, there is a thread about this in the Knit Picks Lovers group forum. Apparently this has been the case for many people and many different colorways of Imagination. Now, I love the yarn. The color difference doesn't bother me that much as the socks are for me and you can tell that it is the same colorway. But isn't there a way to make sure that we can get matching hanks even though it's "hand dyed" (although, its been said that is not really "hand dyed" I don't know about all that???) Or would it be possible for it to be done in 100g hanks so that one hank can make a matching pair of socks? Just some thoughts. Thanks for reading ;)
The coloring issues are directly related to the artisan nature of this particular kind of dying process, whether it is technically dyed by individual human hands or not, and It's part of the fun of using Imagination yarns and other hand dyed yarns.
There are some things you can do to minimize and manage the "variety" of coloring... but, as you say... its for socks and you can clearly see it is the same colorway.
I do like the idea of 100g hanks though, too... like they've gone to for some of the kettle dyed yarns... and I would expect that is under discussion because the same logic applies. :-)
I have no problems with socks that don't match. ( my DH called me punky brewster because of all the variegated yarns I have for socks, lol) I don't go to the trouble of trying to match up stripes or whatever. It does look like the same colorway but one is just darker shaded than the other so its obviously different. There's no way that I'm going to switch yarns every row or so either, that would just take the fun right out of it for me. I do 2 at a time using magic loop and can't imagine how tangled that would get, yikes! I too am hoping that maybe it will go the way of the Essential kettle dyed in the 100g hanks!! :)
I wouldn't be interested in switching out every few rounds either... especially 2@x socks!
Have you called Customer Service and made a request that Imagination be put up in the 100g hanks too? Or, maybe the next time you place an order, you could use the special Email box... NOT the "do we need to know anything special about your order box" but the one directly under that one... and make that suggestion? They really truly do like hearing these sorts of suggestions. It can take 9 months to a year to actually see the results of some suggestions implemented, simply because of the lead time involved in making certain changes... but they do listen and they do take them under serious consideration. :-)
We certainly do appreciate suggestions from our customers, but the best way to contact us is by e-mailing customer service or posting your suggestion on the forums.
If you type your suggestion in the "questions and comments" box when you place an order, your order automatically goes on hold until a customer service operator reads the comment and releases the order. It can delay the shipping of your package.
That box is really meant for customers who don't know how to change their shipping address, want to add something to their order at the end, or have special payment instructions. The forums and the customer service e-mail will reach someone who can file your request so we can review it at the new product meeting.
