I'm sitting here right now Magic Looping a pair of socks... I think it makes them go a lot faster, and I use them on mitterns, too --S

Are there any plans to take the 4" Harmony DPNs up to larger sizes? Or even the 6" DPNs? I like knitting with size 5 on up, but 8" is just too long for DPNs for me!

Can someone tell me which needles would be best for socks? I'm looking at the Harmony vs. Options in 6"

Thanks

Roxanne,
For some socks I like the Options best, but for most socks I think you would prefer the Harmony wood - they are a lot lighter, and won't be sliding out of your socks as easily as the Options would. --S

I've heard so many pros and cons about both. What about breakage with the Harmony wood? Has there been a problem with that and can you knit as fast on them as you do with the Options?

I'm not a super fast knitter by any means, but I have had no breakage problems. When you purchase ONE size dpn, you get I think 6 needles - which is a pretty good deal, and if there is breakage, you still have at least 5 to work with. It is really all based on taste... if I'm using a heavier yarn, I like the Options better - if a light weight sock yarn - the Harmony's. It is really up to you. --S

Right now I have size 2 and 3 in the Clover Bamboo Premium Knitting Needles DPN. Then, I saw Knitpicks sale on the DPN's in the Harmony and Options. I wasn't sure if I should get the whole set or just a couple to fill in what I don't have. I also have a size 1 in a long circular to learn Magic Loop. So, not sure if I should just get a whole set of the Knitpicks in Harmony or Options, or just get fillers.

What size is used most for socks anyway? I've never knitted a pair yet. Does it matter what size you use?

Thanks so much

Roxanne,
It really depends on the yarn, but for most regular sock yarn I would go more than a size 1 or 2. I really like the fixed circulars since I do all my socks via Magic Loop. The KP fixed circulars are very smoothe for using Magic Loop.

You could get a whole set, but probably to start our just fill in what you don't have. --S

Does anyone ever get both size 1's and 2's? I guess there is a No. 2 in a 2.75mm and a 3.0mm and in the No. 1 there is a size 2.25 and 2.50. Why do you need both of these? Is it that imperative to get a sock to fit by needing these sizes in the different mm's? Just curious. What do you do? Do you just get a No. 0, 1, 2 and 3 without the ones inbetween. If you were to choose between the different mm's for the 1 and 2, which sizes would you get?

Thanks

Well, I have the No 1 in a 2.25 (I got it before the 2.5's came out)... then I got a 2.5, which I prefer. Like I said, it is up to your individual taste... he 2.25's seemed almost too small - the 2.5 is just big enough that you feel a bit more comfortable. --S
