I have not figured how to join the cables to make them longer, got some Harmony just need some help on that, Susan could you please help and thanks, Irene
Irene,
Sorry to disappoint you, but you cannot "join the cables".. the longest cable length is eithe 47" or 60" - I forget which, but that is as long as it goes. Options and Harmony needles to not come with joiners for the cables.
It's 60". I have one, and it almost reaches across the room, LOL! If you want something really big, though, you could knit half of your project on one 60" Options (tips and cable) and the other half on another. Usually, you don't need that much cable, because the sts can bunch up on the cable. --P
This sure will date me, a long time ago in a land called Sears I took knitting lessons and got one of their set of knitting needles, the cables were rubberized and did not last very long, it chapped and split, but in their kit they had this one inch piece of metal that had groves and could join cables, together it was just smooth enough to let the yarn slide, but sure would not let fingering yarn slide very well, I still have the needles and some cables, but never use them. Irene
LOVE this idea! It would make it a lot easier to transfer stitches from one cable to another! Not necessarily to make a longer cable to work with as much as to move stitches to a holder or to exchange a cable you are using to a longer or shorter one.
I often miscalculate how long a cable I need for a project. After I've worked a few rounds, I'll decide I need more or less cable than I chose. I currently solve the problem by attaching the new cable to my new working point and attach a "cable screw on button" to the open ends of both cables. I work around to the other side, remove the cable caps, and finish transferring the other point to the new cable.
It would be so much more convenient if I could just attach the two cables in the middle, slide the stitches over, disconnect the old cable, and attach the other point!
I received your Harmony needle set from my son and husband for my birthday this year and all I can say is they are the BEST. I am currently using them on my first sweater and just think they are outstanding. They are smooth and comfortable in my hands, and they handle the yarn with ease. And now we have this wonderful new site too! Life is good.
Oh I so agree with you on this - I have been thinking the same thing - I would love to be able to add more cord on to what I am knitting to try things on from time to time and a connector for the cords would make it so easy
WOW! These are great. I just started using Harmony Needles, both double pointed and circular. Besides being colorful I love the pointed ends. Thats great for making socks and anything else you might think of. You can't go wrong with these, I highly recommend these.
I have a question about needle tip length on the interchangeable needles. I noticed the website says this about the lengths of the needles that are not interchangeable.
The 16" needle tips are 3 3/8 inches long, allowing for an easily formed complete circle for small circumference knitting. The 24", 32", 40" and 47" needle tips are 5 1/8 inches long. Since our cable is super flexible, the Magic Loop method of sock knitting can be accomplished with the 32" needles.
But when i look at the set of interchangeable needles, I see no needle tip length. Can this be clarified? Thanks.
