Martha: I agree wholeheartedly! KP customer service is the best. Most places, if they send you a replacement, you feel that they really don't want to do it. At KP, the reps are so friendly and understanding, and so willing to help. And the tips are perfect most of the time. I read on Ravelry that if you hold the base to tighten, you put less stress on the place where the wooden part of the tip goes into the socket, so I'm doing that now. My tip is, use a square of rubberized shelf liner to hold the base with while you turn the cable the other way with the little tool. It also works for taking them off. Some of my knitting friends were having trouble with yarn getting caught in the join because they couldn't tighten it enough. Of course, we're mostly older ladies...

Stacey,
We only say things like this about KP because it is true. If you ever want to change your company name, you could always use The Knitters' Friend.

Peggy, Thanks for the tip. But I was doing that already. I have several sets of interchangeable needles and I took the rubber gripper from another set to make a pattern circle to make several more. What happened was more to do with my travel from humid to dry climates and back and subjecting the needles to the extreme conditions, I think. The were in my knit picks kit and the needels had just spilt where the apoxy held the different colors together. It was weird. Anyway I started looking and several had begun to come apart. So I emailed KP and they said it was more than likely a bad set. Instant replacements came! I was so happy. So I got the set of Zephers for my travels to save my harmony wooden ones.

Yet another good reason to get the Zephyrs... I just love all of the kP products...

This is a general queston about the sizes of the interchangeable needles. Why is #17 the largest needle you make? I love the interchangeable needles but in doing some charity knitting, I want to get things knit quickly (afghans, scarves, etc). I end up doubling or tripling strands and using #19 or even #35 needles. I'd really rather make these items with your needles.

Does anyone else share my feelings.

I don't use the larger sized very often... most of my needles that get the most use are between a 7 and a 10. I have one pattern that calls for a 19, and I have done it successfully using a 17... I have an inexpensive #35 circular, but it does not get much use.

I'm really liking mine so far. I have a Denise set, and I think I actually like it's connection system better, but they're so dull! It's a pain to do anything. Before that I've use a lot of casein needles because I have carpal tunnel, but they don't like Iowa winters.

My only Harmony casualties so far have been on my dpns. One was a manufacturing issue where I had a dip in the wood and they started to split. Customer service fixed me right up, and I was so glad I didn't have to send the whole set back. (They would have possibly gotten a sleeve with them...) The other was my own fault. It's not the best idea to put your sock-in-progress in the pocket of your hoodie then try to drive with your knit steering wheel cover on.

I'd love it if KP would make Harmony crochet hooks like I've seen in an Australian blog, or really, really tiny dpns (like 00000) I knit dollhouse-scale clothes and finding tiny needles is a real pain.

They probably can't go that thin with wood. I know what you mean, though. Did you see the movie Coraline? A lady knit all the sweaters, gloves and everything for that. There was a video out on it. I don't know whether it's still around. Our son is a computer animator and worked on the film. He sent me a link to the video interview with the lady who did the knitting. The link doesn't work anymore, though. --P
