I've had my Harmony Interchangeables for almost a year and have no problems whatsoever. Customer Service is excellent from what I hear should any problems pop up.

I've owned the Options Nickel set for almost 2 years and love them. When the Harmony woods came out I purchased 2 sets of the fixed circulars for socks. They are wonderful and I have had no problem with them at all. The best part is the tips which are extremely pointed and sharp. This really comes in handy for sock knitting.

I also purchased some of the larger sized - 10, 13 Harmony tips for use with heavier yarns and large gauge knits. Again. I have had no problems, but I purchased these when the Harmony's first were introduced.
A lot of things can go wrong in the production process, no matter how good the quality control. The thing to keep in mind is that KP stands behind their products, and if there is something wrong they WILL fix it.

I haven't bought an entire Harmony set because I prefer the Nickel for most applications, and the cables work for both types of tips.

I'm wondering if maybe the more vocal knitters are the ones that unfortunately received "bad needles," while the knitters that got "good" needles are too happily knitting away to say as much! I have simply been so turned off by lousy customer service IN GENERAL that I have gotten cynical. Maybe I will just have to take the plunge and just by some Harmonys to see what's what. I have read through a bunch of the KnitPicks Forums and found the concensus regarding customer service to be very positive. So--here goes!!

I don't know whether you've seen my previous posts regarding KP needles, but I had three issues (out of many needles purchased). All were fixed-cable needles. One Harmony fixed cable had a rough place on the tip. I called, and they put a new one in the mail for me. I didn't even have to return the defective one. The other problem was with the nickel-plated fixed cable. Two of the same size (probably from the same manufacturing batch) broke right in the middle of the cable, when I wasn't even pulling on it or putting any weight on it. Both were replaced at no cost to me. When I participated in the Speed-knitting KAL, I found myself pulling pretty hard on my metal Options cable, to get the nearly 600 sts to move around. I was worried about pulling so hard, but I was in a HURRY! No problem. The cable and its connections were troopers! Now that the tips have cooled down, they are ready to go again on another project! My new set of Harmony Options came while I was knitting away on my Hemlock Ring. During a break, I allowed myself to pet them. They're so smooth and relatively warm. My knitting friends are so envious! I think you will enjoy your new needles. First, though, you have to watch for the mailman for several days, because you never know exactly which day they will come! Happy knitting! --Peggy

I've had two cables come apart at the joins. When the first one occurred, I just Super Glued it back together and kept knitting with another cable. I didn't know there were any issues with cables until I read it in the blogs a short time later and left a comment that... I just glued mine back together and kept knitting.

The next thing I knew, there was an email from customer service asking me to contact them and provide my address so that they could send me new cables. Long story short, I didn't even call them, they called me, and the new cables were in my mailbox within about two days. There is no such thing as lousy customer service with KP.

If I were you, I'd get two fixed circulars in the sizes you use most, and a cable and a couple of tips (again in sizes you use most). See for yourself just how wonderful these products really are.

Hi, I just received my set of Harmony options. I played with them some last night and switched one of my projects over to them from my boye needles and I'm SOOOOO happy with them. I LOVE them just as much as my nickel plated options. They are so smooth and warm. I'm using them on a scarf using Caron simply soft, I was having some problems with the needles slipping but with the harmonies it is perfect! I now have a full set of both and will never have to purchase another needle again! So far I've not had any problems with my needles but even if I did I've read so many good things about KP customer service that I'm not worried that they wouldn't fix whatever problem to my satisfaction. These are GREAT needles and I recommend them to everyone!

I too HAD a Boye set before I got my Options, and on every project the cables came loose. Boy was that frustrating. I absolutely hated them. Once I got my Options set, I gave my Boye's to a friend who is just learning to knit. She was tickled to get a set with so many different sizes. I kinda felt guilty giving them to her, because I know they are by far not nearly what they should be. My only consolation is that I got them for less than 1/2 price, so I'm not out anything... and she has all the needles she will ever need.

I am finding that my tension is less consistent and more loose with the continental style compared to the American style (which tends to be tight). This prob also plays a role as to why I feel the ridges more than anyone else. A cable from the same set also has a rough spot that kept catching yarn........I think I will call customer service to replace the whole set.....On more careful inspection, all but one #9 needle have ridges, some more obvious than others but the ridges on the bigger needles really bug me. I will keep everybody posted.

I think when there is a manufacturing error, it tends to be repeated several times or more in the same batch. The fixed nickel-plated needles I had where the cable broke were the same size and purchased at the same time as the other one. They were probably made at the same time, and the same errors in manufacturing that caused them repeated. I just received my set of Harmonies, and no ridges that I can see. Of course, I haven't knit with them yet. :-{ --Peggy

Peggy, the ridges are noticeable...I showed my set to my friend who introduced me to the harmony ...she told me her set certainly did not have any ridges.
I called customer service this morning and as expected, Ann who answered was very nice and will arrange to send me a new set as well as the return label to use when I return the old set. I am hoping this new set will not come from the same batch....fingers crossed.

Correction..... I spoke to Amber, not Ann...well, half an hour after I called...I realized that I did not even give my complete name and address .....so I called back and asked for "Ann"...learned that it must have been Amber whom I spoke to....this time, Kate who answered, looked up my file....apparently everything was in place...another set will be sent to me.....I guess they must have been expecting my call.....(my surname is not common and hard to pronounce correctly). Now, that's great customer service!
