I know what you mean. I just placed an order, and am happily awaiting the log jam at the warehouse - KP is getting very popular! And even though I haven't started building my next order, I have a list of things I want to do this year, and am figuring and calculating what I will need. At $50 an order, except for minor kniting emergencies, they get a lot of my discretionary spending, too.
Susan: When I ordered my Options Harmony needle set, I asked about the log jam. The person I talked with said it's common when a new catalog comes out. I told her I thought I had "spread the news" too much about how great their bargains are. :-} Also, whenever I want to place an order, I e-mail my whole knitting group to see if they need anything, so I always get $50 with no problem. Several people in my knitting group do the same, which is why my WotA yarn for the speed knitting contest is going to Peoa, UT, instead of Park City! Just so you (and everyone else) don't think I'm spending my social security money on knitting instead of food and a roof over my head, I should explain that my DH is still working part time. He says as long as he's working, my SS pay can go to play money, after taxes and Medicare. It will be different after he quits work, which he was going to do this month, but because of the economic situation, he has put it off. I'm trying to build up my stash of yarn, needles and books, so when the day comes...I won't have to go back to work to feed my "habit." --Peggy
I'm already there, Peggy! I could easily find projects to keep me going from my stash for a couple of years if I never bought another ball of yarn. And heaven knows I've got plenty of needles and other tools. If push came to shove I've got all those old aluminum ones from my mom and daughter and Good Will and original knitting days. Would hate to have to resort to that, but, if I absolutely HAD to... [giggle]
I have the Harmony set and not sure if I am happy with them yet. They are lovely to look at.
But, have had snagging issues so far and last night one needle came out of it's own metal connection tip. Tried glue today to put it back together but haven't tried it out again.
Due to the difficulty in backing up my work after the needle fell apart; I had to rip all the work out again and start all over from the cast on.
Very frustrating, especially since this was the first try at using my long waited for Harmony Options set and then have this happen right out of the gates..
I am doing the garment with a pair of Addi circulars now and until I fionish the project.
hey Donnaf61 I don't know about the snagging issue but as far as the connection and the needle coming apart glueing them back togerther should be fine if not customer service with knitpicks is fabulous and should be happy to help fix your problem. The connection ends coming apart seems to be a somewhat regular problem and maybe they should have someone checking them before they are shipped out and I'm even more sorry that you had to start over from the beginning but I have both the nickel plated and the harmony needles and I could buy what ever brand or style I wanted I do have a couple of the addi turbo's and I have found knitpicks to be far and above the rest the best that I have purchased or borrowed from friends I cannot say enough good things about them and you can even go back I have put in several other entries on how much I love there needles and actually all of the yarn I have purchased from them but especially the needles are the most superior that I have used.
So give them another try and I think that you will be very suprised and happy with the outcome. Good Luck and happy knitting. trixhilda
I don't know what length cable you used, or how large or heavy your project is, but I've found that if you use a cable significantly larger than your project that the connections fare much better.
Example: If you are making a hat, and use a 24" cable, there isn't much play in the cable, and more stress is put on the connection. Also, if your knitting is very tight, it adds to this stress. And twisting the needle points is unnecessary, just let the points turn in your work.
Yes I've had a couple of the 24" cables some apart, but have never had the same problems with longer cables.
Actually it was the needle itself than came apart from it's connector tail end. So glue seemed to work.
I am trying the Harmony out again on the project.
Donna
Well the glue seemed to hold so I did transfer tghe 2nd attempt at the project from the Addi's back onto the Harmony's. Will give it another try again. I am a very forgiving person; always give the benfit of doubt. So will try again- up to row 14 of 56 again. Yes, my knitting times are intgermittant in nature. So this will take me awhile.
Since I spent so much on extra cables and larger tips and other accessories for the set; I am reluctant to return the set.
Wish me luck.
I get excited every time a Knit Picks box arrives at my house. I remember when I got my Options Set - I put the box aside and waited until after dinner so I could savour the moment.
I know this is pretty late (almost a year later) but I thought I'd pass along my experiences. I learned to knit lace by joining a mystery lace knitalong. That was a wonderful way to learn. The best part was how willing the more experienced knitters were to "dummy" down some of the instructions for us beginners. You might consider joining one if you haven't taken the plunge yet.
