Go to Kelley's Knitting Community blog and right click on the "Download audio file" button and choose "Save link as." It will then ask you where you would like to save the mp3 file.
Perfect!! Thank you. Now, is there some place I can get the old podcasts? I only downloaded up to # 12 as I just discovered them and thought I would be able to download them any time. I love listening to them in the car.
You can access all of the back episodes at http://knitpicks.libsyn.com/ - this is our hosting service for the podcasts. We're also going to move over all of the old podcasts descriptions to the Knitting Community site over the next week or so, and we'll update the podcast download/streaming instructions in the Discussion Forum when we do.
I cannot download the podcasts to use on my Zune anymore. I have tried clicking on the arrow next to the podcast, however it immediately starts downloading without asking where to put it. I do not know where it is going, however it suddenly opens in quick time and begins playing. That is not at all what I used to get. I would save it to my desktop and transfer it to my Zune very easily. I have spent over an hour trying to figure this out and I just can't.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I also posted this as a comment on your user page, but Kelley's Knitting Community blog has a post for the new podcast, and you should be able to download the file the old way there. The Quicktime auto-play is happening because of how your media file types are associated with different programs you have installed - you can change these preference through your computer's control panel.
I can't get enough of these podcasts, and always listen over breakfast on Saturday morning. It's the one podcast that I DON'T listen to on my iPod, because I love being able to open another window on the computer and "flip through" the books while they're being reviewed. (And may I just say "thank you" for the "View More Images" feature on your books? It's so helpful!)
I love the informative format of your podcast. So many podcasts are just chat, but with yours I feel like I come away with an education. It shows that you love your job, which I believe may be one of the best in the world. Who wouldn't want to be surrounded by yarn and knitting all day?
This is what shows when I click on the "http://knitpicks.libsyn.com/rss" link:

The source code goes on and on. I sure do miss the easy "right click" and "Save As" way of downloading the podcasts. I have been struggling with downloading the podcast for about 3 hours and I am very near giving up. If it is this difficult, maybe it isn't worth the hassle. I do miss listening and would certainly appreciate an easier way to download to my computer so I can transfer to my MP3 player.
I am a computer programmer so I know I am not lacking in computer knowledge but this is really getting my goat. Any technical advice would be greatly appreciated. I have tried Internet Explorer and FoxFire, also Windows Media Player and Real Player, to no avail.
Hi, Wanda. I'm sorry you're having trouble getting the RSS feed to work. I just double-checked it on Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox v2.0.0.12, and it looks like it's working with no problems. I'm not sure what the issue is with your browser...I do know that IE 6 doesn't have a built in RSS reader, so that RSS link won't work for you on that browser.
If you can't get the RSS feed to work with your browser, we offer a number of different ways to get the podcast:
- If you'd like to just download the file, you can save the mp3 files directly from the main page of the Knitting Community. If you look at the music player in the upper left corner of the main page, you'll see all of the podcasts listed in the playlist, the most recent at the top. To the right of the title of each track is a little icon of an arrow pointing down - if you click on this, you can download that track right to your computer.
- Another neat feature of this new music player is that you can also use it as a jukebox to stream Kelley's podcast. Next to the play/stop buttons, there are three little icons: one for playback (normal, repeat, or shuffle) one for "popping out" the player, and one for volume. If you click on the pop-out button, your browser will open a new little window with a music player loaded with all of Kelley's podcasts. You can leave this window open while you browse other sites and can listen to Kelley's podcast for as long as you'd like!
- You can also go to Kelley's Knitting Community blog and right click on the "Download audio file" button and choose "Save link as." It will then ask you where you would like to save the mp3 file.
- Finally, you can access all of the back episodes at http://knitpicks.libsyn.com/ - this is our hosting service for the podcasts. We're also going to move over all of the old podcasts descriptions to the Knitting Community site over the next week or so, and we'll update the podcast download/streaming instructions in the Discussion Forum when we do.
Just listened to the shawl pod cast. We have a gal in the shop where I work who we affectionately call our sock diva, as she has many socks. In fact she just finished every sock in the Knitting Vintage socks book by Nancy Bush. However, I have as many shawls as she has socks. I love them. Great for summer when the air conditioning is too much and perfect for the inter seasonal changes. I just started the Gyspy shawl by fiber trends as a model for the shop. Many of my shawls have been from patterns we sell, as well as some from the internet using some of our wonderful yarns. Some patterns I do modify to suit my personal taste. Many of the half round shawls I've made are modified to come over the shoulders similar to the faroe shawls. I just can't help it, I am a designer at heart.
I am in the process of designing a square shawl that tells a story. Sort of the reverse lace process. If that is a process. You see the story is all about alpaca. I have an arangement with my friend who raises them, I get fleece and she gets some original and hand knitted products every year. Needless to say I have some wonderful alpaca that I have spun up. The plan is to return to that project as soon as a tweed sweater, gypsy shawl, and fair isle Christmas stocking are done. Oh, say sometime in May? (perhaps that is wishful thinking.)
I also like the audio books. I take my travel speakers to the shop on Spinning Sunday, and when I travel. My husband a collector of gadgets has several of these portable speakers, so I have one set up at home, and out at the cabin. Perfect for when there is nothing on the TV.
Enjoy your trip. We've had several costomers in the shop lately telling of their travel misadventures of loosing needles at the hands of the TSA. One lady spoke of how they took the knitting right off the needles! A good reason for the portable needles such as Options or Denise. At least she wouldn't have lost all those stitches.
